Do you have a specific product that you are looking to sell on eBay? Were you planing on using Paypal? Just know that you don't have to use paypal to sell on ebay even though ebay will make it seem like you do. They do after all own paypal.
Be aware that there are numerous products that are prohibited and restricted to sell on eBay so you would like to stay away from selling the following:

but i think that anybody who is "new" to internet sales will have more than only his hands full on ebay....
unless you can get your fingers on really cheap merchandise that is high in demand .....how could you stay competitive ?
that's already a hurdle most sellers can not pass. if you think about drop shipping ....forget it. worst case of business model ever
but lets say you find a source for goods - buying in China is good ( but there are a whole lot of other problems to be taken into account and need to be thoroughly researched before you just send someone 500 bucks for 10 brand new "authentic" iphones)
omg.......new to internet sales and maybe try ebay ?
spend at least 6 month of your free time to do proper research and then think about it again. it most likely will save you a lot of money and headache.
you may wanna try to do some real low level sales to get a feel for it. look in your house for stuff you don't need anymore. do the same at your relatives places. find some used stuff and start selling it.
don't list all that stuff at one time. take it easy with the listings. you will see that some transactions will run as smooth as a swiss watch and others will turn into a pain in the ass. what do you think will happen if you have like 50 or more transactions a day ? ( if ebay and paypal will ever let you get that far.....)
