Exclamation PayPal to be used as a legal tool to steal money!??

What do you think of this:

I advertised on Gumtree that I want to sell a brand new wedding dress for £600, next day I received email from a guy and I offered him that he can come see it. After that I received the following message:

Hello there, thanks for your quick response. I'll be offering you £80 for the postage cost via Royal Mail to my friend who is on a training course in West Africa, i want to send it as surprise birthday present...I would have loved to come for the collection then handle the postage myself but unfortunately i'm presently in Finland on a business trip, so i'll really appreciate your help. Send me a PayPal money request for the total cost and i'll make the payment asap.

Best Regards,Daniel

Isn`t it really weird? Do you think that this guy will pay first and than he will complain to PayPal that he have never received the goods and PayPal returns money to him and I will loose £600? If yes it looks that PayPay helps to cover crime.

Exclamation

Beware, this what is known as a 419 fraud or Nigerian scam.
Don't send the item and don't reply to the e-mail!
I have had a similar e-mail as a reply to a buy-it-now on ebay. "I am currently travelling in Canada and don't have British ebay account the item is for my friend's son in West Africa, blah di blah."
The paypal account they are using is either not real or even worse none of the corresponce is via or from paypal, i.e. they are using e-mail addresses that are very similar to real paypal ones, but are not paypal. They will eventually tell you something about a money order which will not go through paypal. If you reply to their e-mail they will keep bugging you. I would make it clear on Gumtree that you are not selling outside the UK (and/or the EU).
Hope my answer is not too late.
Good Luck!
Hank

Are you high? He wasn't even going to pay you by paypal. He was just going to send you an email saying "YOU RECEIVED CASH".

Paypal in Nigeria? Remember Josef Stalin? If you ever used Paypal from Nigeria they wouldn't just ban you. They would go back 3 generations and find out who your 8 great grandparents were and second cousins from Missouri who you never met would be banned because of it.

Don't do it, if you get money, and see it's marked as eligible for seller protection, only send it to that address with tracking. Saying that, it's a scam.
