Exclamation Closed bank account and bank still pays Paypal

Super pissed right now that the Ebay fees for an item I sold and got charged back on have been paid through Paypal by my bank (Chase) on a closed fucking bank account!!! WHAT THE F%$K???

Now I have to dispute with the fucking bank. And they were almost ready to side with Paypal telling me I need to call them and sort it. I had to show Chase the timeline of emails and even this website...

I get to talk to the fabulous dipshits at Chase's fraud department tomorrow.

I just typed up a letter to California and Nevada's attorney generals.

I already told Chase that I don't care who tries to collect, I am not paying for fraud or the facilitation of it. I told the account rep that they can either send it to collections or dispute it and let Paypal send it to collections. Who wants to lose the money.

You have been warned! Immediately close any bank accounts associated with Paypal as they will still charge you on a CLOSED account and it WILL GO THROUGH!

unfuckingbelievable!

Paypal does take money out of users bank account without authorization. This is the first time I hear about them getting money out of a closed bank account. Typically when people get screwed they have the bank on their side. I hate chase as well as paypal. I got stuck with chase because I used washington mutual.

Well to be honest i dont know why they would do this, althoughb it depends when it was closed and when paypal took money, because it can take a few days to close an account,

And i've got a dispute against me which has gone in favour of the buyer and put me in -$2700, my bank has overdraft protection i do believe so they wont be able to take money out of my bank if i dont have it in there, although if they do i'll be ringing up my bank and telling them that i did not authorise this payment and that its been a fraudulant authorisation and get a chargeback on it

Overdraft protection on your bank account is a must when you have it linked to your paypal account.
I am not sure myself how paypal was able to take money out of a closed bank account but nothing with paypal surprises me.

Oh wow! This just takes it to a whole other level....paypal collecting from a CLOSED account? I don't get it. If it was closed how/why would chase even allow a withdrawl? I am confused and interested because I too have Chase. I have been with them for 5 yrs now and have been actually completely happy with the service for checking and savings and loan. When I move I do plan to close the checking and savings account and finally merge with my husband's. I guess a question to the bank is how closed is closed before I go. Who'd a thunk!!

I feel for you, SURELY Chase will work to your favor without further frustration...damn Paypal!

Update:

Okay so the reason the money was taken from the account was due to the transaction being an ACH payment/debit which the bank assumes is valid until it is disputed.

My "closed" account at Chase was automatically reopened with this ACH transaction. I was told by the bank rep that sometimes it takes a few weeks for accounts to close. Lovely.

I disputed the charge with Chase and they took it off. Winning!

So if this happens to you, at least you can dispute it as a fraudulent charge and Paypal will be stuck in the end with the loss.
