Default Paypal had locked up my eBay Gift Card

I too have had a limited account for years and have been unable to purchase on eBay.
I received a $100 eBay gift card from a friend and opened a new paypal account with a new credit card as the backup funding source. I received a welcome letter...blah blah....and make my first purchase for about $20. All seemed to go well.

Within two days, I received notification that this new paypal account was now also limited because it was in the same name as the old limited account.

Here is the problem. According to paypal, I cannot use the remaining balance on the eBay card for any transaction involving paypal. No one else can use the card balance either because it is now 'linked' to the 'limited account'. Believe me....I tried giving it back to the kind person who gave it to me but they have found its a dead issue as they just get the message that it cannot be used because it is linked to another paypal account.

Paypal says they cannot refund the balance, nor can they dissassociate the card number from the limited account....so that the balance can be used by someone who has a paypal account in good standing.

Basically, they are just telling me I'm out of luck and I suppose they are happy to just keep the balance.

Any suggestions? I've gotten nowhere in talking to them on the phone.

Thanks!

Desperate for an answer.

That should be illegal. They can't prevent you from using a gift card. I would find out the laws in your state regarding gift cards and find out what you can do to get the money back. I just can't see it as legal to keep it without giving you a way to get your money back or use the card. Can you still use the gift card? I mean, transfer it or sell the balance to someone else?

Speaking Honestly this is your fault. You were aware that you already have 2 limited Paypal accounts. Why on earth would you open another under the same name? Did you realy think they were not going to limit you? i can understand putting money in the account to make a purchase, but why did you leave a balance? You should have spent it all. There is really nothing you can do about this. Except chalk it up as a loss, and move on. Remember this lesson.

Like the above comment states, it probably was not a good idea to open up a PayPal account with the same info as your limited one. You say you are not going anywhere talking to their support so I'm afraid there is really nothing we can do to help. Just learn from the experience I guess

You should call customer support and after that you should move to another money service because PP is really bad. PayPal is bad because they always lock accounts for no reason and take people's money.

Unfortunately I really agree with the posters before - there is not much you can do and should take it as a learning experience!
