Default Need some advice

I'm currently selling an item on e-bay in a buy it now format. I was just offered $1715 dollars for it this morning, the offer is valid for 48 hours. The buyer has ZERO feedback, has never bought or sold anything on e-bay ever, but he joined on sept. of 2011. I'm very skeptical of accepting this offer because he has no track record on e-bay. If I accept his offer what would be the best way to insure that he doesn't rip me off. I know to get a tracking number with signature confirmation. But beyond this should I get insurance on my item? If I have proof that I sent the item I.E. signature confirmation would this be sufficient for ebay to not reverse the transaction if he's scamming me. I just don't want to get scammed. Any help would be appreciated. I'm glad I found this site, I've been super careful after reading some of the stories on here, and would appreciate any advice you guys can give me before i make my decision to accept or decline this offer.

Don't do it! With all the doubts you are all ready having I would hate to see you go through with it just to get ripped off. Go with your gut instinct.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is probably a.......duck.

If you won't miss $1715....just in case this is a shady scammer...then go ahead BUT if you have any doubts don't do it.

All too often the seller is going by the book listing a product, selling at fair price, shipping to buyer only to be smacked in the face by a scammer who gets the product and then claims they didn't get it or it wasn't what they expected and paypal gives them their money back by taking it from you AND the bloak keeps the product.

One would like to believe in the honesty of people but the cold, hard truth is that there are a whole lot of dishonest people and they make their living robbing the honest folks.

Tread caustiously...go with your instincts. $1715 is a lot of cash to have held up by Paypal for possibly months if they so choose.

What you can do is contact the buyer by email or by phone , and you could get a very good idea if he is just trying to rip you off or he just started on eBay and could be a honest person , I hd a few times like this and after going through on a conversation with the buyer before the item was sold on eBay , I could get a good idea if he is going to scam me or he is serious about getting the item , but again if you are worried then don't sell it to him , good luck with your decision

Guys thanks for your input. I've decided to wait for the next offer. I looked at his profile and he has 2 views both from me LOL. It looks like he opened the account 4 months ago and was just waiting for someone to scam. I googled the user name and the results came back to a small company from Pakistan. The only problem is he spelled the name of the company wrong I mean if your going to pretend to be someone else at least spell their user name right.

I wouldnt hold it against the buyer just because its his first time purchasing, thats just paranoia but when dealing with paypal I can understand... I'd go through the whole signature required and track your packages etc but the truth is if the buyer wants to charge it back they will regardless

It's good you didn't go for it.

It's not likely that a person's first purchase on eBay will be for something that costs $1715!
